Bicycling/Touring Checklist

Checklists are a good habit to get into when you prepare for an outing. Print them out, make your own additions, and maybe you can avoid that, "Oh, no, I forgot..." scenario.

The Essentials
Don't hit the road - even for a day trip - without these items:

Helmet
Compass and maps
Tire pressure gauge
Patch kit and spare tube
Tool kit - including tire levers and pocketknife
Food
Water bottles and water
First aid kit
Sunglasses
Sunscreen - use a high SPF for optimum protection

Bicycles make great year-round, long-distance vehicles. But if you head out for longer rides, you'll need to gear up. Base your equipment selection on the season, region and length of your trip. But keep it light and compact.
