Hunting Checklist

Checklists are a good habit to get into when you prepare for an outing. Print them out, make your own additions, and maybe you can avoid that, "Oh, no, I forgot..." scenario.



The Essentials

All necessary licensing (stamps, tags, permits for access to private land, etc.)
Compass and maps
20 rounds of rifle ammo (includes 6 rounds for distress signaling)
Electrical tape to cover a rifle's bore in snowy or muddy hunting conditions
Fixed blade knife
Folding knife
Fire-starter (cotton rolls soaked in melted wax or any material containing paraffin)
Butane lighter
Flashlight
Insect repellent – one with DEET works best
Trash bags (including one bright orange bag to wear to aid in your discovery if you should become lost)
Rubber kitchen gloves or latex examination gloves for field-dressing or cleaning game

Clothing

Multiple warming layers
Windbreaking outer shell
A poncho or other rain gear
Thin pair of poly socks

Emergency Items

Flares, small signaling mirror, brass whistle
Emergency kit in a waterproof container
Waterproof matches
Adhesive bandages
Aspirin or aspirin substitutes
Blankets
Extra batteries - make sure they are new
Multipurpose tool
String or parachute cord
