RV Camping Checklist

Checklists are a good habit to get into when you prepare for an outing. Print them out, make your own additions, and maybe you can avoid that, "Oh, no, I forgot..." scenario.


The Essentials

Compass and maps
Portable generator
Radiant heaters
Books (particularly reference books relevant to the geographical areas in which you’re traveling), games, jigsaw puzzles, writing materials
A set of tools that would enable you to complete any small or usual home repair, plus a hand axe
First aid kit
Fire extinguisher
Trowel or shovel
Some blocks of 2x lumber to assist you in the leveling process
Sleeping bag rated for the nighttime temperatures you expect to find
Pillow – Clothes in a stuff sack may also be used
Blankets
Waterproof matches
Butane lighter
Fire-starter (cotton rolls soaked in melted wax or any material containing paraffin)
Lantern
Fuel for lanterns, stoves, grills, and other outdoor appliances
Flashlights – Always take more than one
Portable radio/stereo
Supply of batteries sized to the needs of your on-board gadgets
Bungie cords, rope, and a variety of tapes (duct, electrical, masking, Teflon, transparent)
Ground cover or tarp – keeps everything cleaner
Sunscreen - use a high SPF for optimum protection
Insect repellent – repellents which contain DEET work the best
Prescription medicines
Brooms, including a small whisk broom
Camera and film
Toilet paper
At least two pairs of old shoes and an old but still warm coat for the hard going
Food and food dishes for pets

Eating/Food Prep

Small portable grill, charcoal and lighter fluid
Cooler(s) with ice
Thermal containers for hot and cold beverages
Small soft cooler
Folding or inflatable furniture, camp stools, extra beds, stands for coolers and stoves
Water bottles and water
Cooking and eating utensils
Plates, cups, bowls
A cutting board and at least one great knife (with a sharpener)
Tablecloth, napkins, pot holders and kitchen towels
Bottle and can openers
Coffee
Coffee paraphernalia (pot, filters, cups) and/or a tea kettle
Kitchen clean-up materials (soaps, scrubbers, rags, paper towels, dish drainer)
Pot scrubber
Aluminum foil, plastic bags, wide-mouthed plastic jars
