Scouting Checklist

Checklists are a good habit to get into when you prepare for an outing. Print them out, make your own additions, and maybe you can avoid that, "Oh, no, I forgot..." scenario.



The Essentials

Compass and map(s) for the area in which you’ll be camping
Small signaling mirror and whistle for emergencies
Sunscreen - use a high SPF for optimum protection
Hat or visor to shade your head and face
Insect repellent – one with DEET works best
First aid kit
Waterproof matches
Pocketknife
String or parachute cord
Layered clothing
A poncho or other rain gear
Backpack
Tent, rainfly, poles and stakes
Sleeping bag rated for the nighttime temperatures you expect to find
Lantern
Watch
Cook stove and fuel
Cooking and eating utensils
Extra food
Water bottles and water
Plates, cups, bowls
